Nyegara Gunung, The Sea And The Mountain

Nyegara Gunung (which literally translates to ‘Ridge to Reef’) is a sacred Balinese Hindu pilgrimage from the sea, rivers, or lakes to the mountains. It applies to the Balinese philosophy regarding harmony between human, God and nature and acknowledges that the sea and the mountain may be seen as an inseparable entity. Hence, every action on the mountain would impact the sea, and vice versa.

The best breakfast experience for this is at the peak of Mount Batur which is very well known for being one of the most beautiful sunrise hikes in Bali and also the ideal location for a breakfast at dawn. The mountain sits at 1.717m above of sea level and takes approximately 2 hours to hike.

• 1.45 am : Departure from Karma Kandara lobby area.
• 3.45 am : Arrival at starting point and introduction to guide.
• 3.50 am : Hike begins and takes approximately 2 hours.
• 5.50 am : Arrival at summit to catch sunrise and have breakfast.
• 7.00 am : Explore the main crater then descend via a different route.
• 9.00 am : Arrival back at car park and then a visit to a hot water spring.
• 9.00 am – 1.00 pm : Hot water spring activities and lunch.
• 3.30 pm – 4.00 pm : Estimated arrival time at Karma Kandara.

• Visit the sacred temple of Tirta Empul in Tampak Siring. This century-old holy spring temple is famous for Balinese Hindu body and soul purification rituals.
• 10.00 am : Depart from Karma Kandara lobby area.
• 12.00 pm – 1.30 pm : Melukat (cleansing) ritual at Tirta Empul Temple.
• 1.30 pm – 2.00 pm : Depart from Tirta Empul Temple for lunch.
• 2.00 pm – 3.00 pm : Lunch at Bebek Tepi Sawah Restaurant in Ubud.
• 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm : Stop at the world renowned Tegallalang rice paddies (a UNESCO – World Heritage site) and the famous Bali swing.
• 7.30 pm – 8.00 pm : Estimated time of arrival at Karma Kandara.
